Just one day without picking and I have filled two colanders and a bowl. More roasted Roma tomatoes in the oven. Their wonderful aroma fills the kitchen.I am beginning to wish I had picked some of them green and made my
green tomato chutney. I'm now stuffing tomatoes with squash instead of squash with tomatoes!
Thank goodness I picked the garlic and had it drying in a sheltered place. We had over 3" of rain in two days. They would have been rotting in the soil, I'm sure. Unfortunately with the rain comes the splitting tomatoes. The yellow pear are particularly affected.

ReplyDeleteWe only had about an inch and a half of rain here. But, it cooled it off, for working in the garden this morning.

Can't wait till my kitchen looks like yours! Here in Northern Calif. we just started actually having summer weather finally so things are a little behind this year, but on their way!

ReplyDeleteI gave up on regular tomatoes this year, and just did romas and cherries. Small but mighty---I have dozens and dozens of each, and am giving them away to my garden impaired neighbors.

ReplyDeleteFerne-I remember when we lived in canada we couldn't plant until May 24th We always had pounds of tomatoes- just a little later.
Lisa- I always grow the romas, mainly for cooking. They are so good roasted. I am restricted to nematode resistant varieties but Celebrity always performs well.
WOW...what a tomato!!! Awesome! Those Romas look so delicious! Ooh-la-la!!! Neat bunch of garlics too! Growing is so rewarding!
ReplyDeleteRuth- Tomatoes seem to be my great success. My granddad used to grow them in England, in his garage, He put in a window and had planter boxes. Amazing how things perk up after a rain especially when there has been lightening.
ReplyDeleteJulie- I'm very happy with the tomato crop and my first garlic crop. Just bought 2 garlics and now have 15. More next year, I think.
I anxiously await the tomatoes in my garden. It will be awhile yet, here in Ohio, especially since I planted late. Your tomatoes look delicious and take a look at the big boy! That's a tomato that would feed a family four!

ReplyDeleteTina- No plans for the tomato as yet. I'm afraid like all things that get too large its flavor may be disappointing. We'll see.
