MORE THAN JUST A FROST

We may have already had a couple of light frosts in our garden, this year, but last night was a real freeze. Today will be a day for removing a lot of damaged plants. Even frost covers couldn't cope with the temperature drop. Every leaf is frozen. Some will recover but many will have succumbed to irreparable cell damage. Already, as the sun warms up the air the leaves and stems are collapsing.
I hope the greenhouse offered a little little protection. I didn't use the heater hoping that the sun warmed bottles and gravel would protect. I have a self watering tray in there and the fabric on the top was frozen. We shall see. Too cold to work outside there now. I'll wait until the temperature warms up a little.

  1. Our roof shingles looked surprisingly frosty here in zone 10 but no signs on the ground. Fingers crossed your greenhouse came through.

  3. That's awful, I'm afraid to go look in my little greenhouse this morning...hope it did it's thing last night, it got down pretty cold here too. Maybe I'm forgetful, but I don't remember it freezing this early in Austin or San Antonio in past years.

  4. Ouch! I was worried about you when this major freeze started to roll in. Austin was expected to get into the TEENS?!!!
I dodged the bullet here with a low of 34 last night since I'm in the warmer part of the city. I had most everything outside covered with towels and blankets.
So sorry to hear about your greenhouse. I'll keep my fingers crossed that all is well.

  5. We got down to 20F, here in Wimberley. I'm afraid I didn't prepare for it getting that cold.

Is this going to be a repeat of last winter, without the rain? I hope not.

Hope your greenhouse things were ok.
