FOR THE RECORD BOOKS

Of course I don't keep record books but these certainly are records for my garden.

I noticed the first tomatoes a couple of weeks ago. In the past I have barely been putting the tomatoes in the ground by this time, let alone seeing tomatoes.

Record number two goes to the flowers on the pink primroses, Oenothera speciosa. They are almost the size of side plates. Enormous, and of course lots of them.

The first time I have ever succeeded in growing a nasturtium from seed. I may be picking to put in my salad by the end of the week. To learn about edible flowers look here.

The earliest pomegranate flower bud to appear, and it may be the last!. The tree seems to be in a serious decline.

This is the first time I have grown agaves in this planter. It is impossible to keep anything alive in this wall planter so I'm going for the xeriscape look.

  1. Of course, I LOVE the succulents in your wall planter!!! :) The nasturtiums are great...congrats on all your records! I have a ton of tomatoes also that are green still, but I am imagining in a week or two they will be ready...very exciting!!!

  2. I wondered about it being an early, warm spring down there - tomatoes already, wow! The wall planter is a good idea - I had to rethink what potted plants are in the desert, and am glad I did.

  3. Wow! That does seem a record on the tomatoes. I just got mine in last week, and have them covered. It's been cold, the last two nights..last night was 38!

Everything looks beautiful, as usual. Love the wall planter.

  6. Wow, you have tomatoes already? Sorry to read the pomogrante seems to be declining. My miniature one is three years old and has yet to give me one blossom. I probably need to move it to get more sun.

  7. I came across your blog tonight and was impressed with your garden. Your season, though six months after ours, also seems even further out of step. I too am amazed at you having tomatoes so early - Dave

  8. Those are lovely tomatoes! Lots of exciting things going on in your garden this spring. I like the Desmettiana in the basket. I need to find a home for my passalong!
