AN EARLY CHUTNEY SEASON

We ran out of green tomato chutney this year, so I'm not waiting until the end of the year. Just suppose there weren't any green tomatoes! Not even worth thinking about.

Besides which we have an early bumper crop of tomatoes. This is the earliest I have ever seen tomatoes of this size. The summer-like days are the reason.

But they are also the reason that spider mites and early blight have reared their ugly heads. Ironic that there are few leaf footed bugs this year!

Anyway the tomatoes are bubbling in the pot. Oh! The kitchen smells wonderful.

And this is the batch I made last week. No chance we will run out this year.

  5. I have tons of green ones right now- do share the recipe (of course if it is not a secret). Unfortunately some of my larger ones are black at the bottom, I found out the container I have them in wasn't draining, apparently the problem, so hopefully they will be fine here on out.

  6. Looks wonderful and I would imagine it tastes even better.

We just planted our tomatoes Saturday so none in our immediate future. We can't wait for them to grow.

  8. Amazing how far ahead you are from mid-Atlantic US. We really are not supposed to plant until our frost date of May 15. I don't have my tomato plants in yet.

  10. Jenny, I just had a stroll through all your posts I've missed recently. I'm so sorry it's still so dry there. But isn't this dry, cool weather nice for a change? What on earth did you do about that rabbit?

It seems so early for that many tomatoes but it looks like you're making the most of it. :-)
