I REMEMBER WHEN.......

iris would bloom in April not in January. My unknown fragrant peach iris is blooming right now!

The first bloom opened yesterday just in time for the cold front which is passing though our area right now. The wind is howling, things are blowing around the garden and the temperature has dropped from the high yesterday of 85° to 48°

It begins to look as though the plant is putting its all into this one bloom time because there are 5 bloom stalks which will open in the next few days, if the weather will allow.
The garden is well ahead of itself this year although other plants seem to be holding back on blooming. The smart ones know that there is still some winter to come.

  1. What a beauty...and yes...with our ever-changing weather, the plants definitely seem confused. I read recently that scientists are surprised that so far plants seem to be coping with the shifting seasons...but that might not be the case as our climate becomes more unstable :-(

  2. I mean - right??? The wind is still howling this morning. It blew in last night while I was outside watering the veggies- we got a few drops of rain but nothing to get excited about. It's chilly outside. Have to admit, I like it- but like this. Not any colder. If it could just stay like this. (minus the wind- too much to ask?)

  3. Love your gorgeous peach iris. This weather does seem a little crazy. I saw a bunch of Cedar waxwings in my Cedar Elm tree yesterday. I normally don't spot a Cedar waxwing until mid February. Looks like mother nature is getting fooled by these warm temps.

  4. An iris...already. Does seem a bit early. But, it's been a strange winter.
That's a real beauty. Hope all the buds get a chance to open.

  5. So pretty! I had one iris try to bloom in early January. Unfortunately a spell of cold nipped it in the bud.

  6. That's such a beautiful, delicate color. My irises aren't blooming, but the foliage is growing like crazy and calling attention to itself all over the garden. Do you fertilize yours with anything?

  8. I saw white irises in bloom over the weekend while at a downtown wedding. Came home and checked mine that were gifted last year and sure enough there is a bloom stalk. It looks a ways from opening though. Yours is a beautiful color. Looks like it will enjoy the weather of the next week ... sunny and warm!

  9. Even though I hate cold weather, I am glad we are finally in the midst of some retarding weather. Things were getting way ahead of themselves.

approximately this, like you wrote the book in it or something.
I believe that you just can do with a few % to pressure the message home a bit, however instead of that, this is great blog. A fantastic read. I'll definitely be back.
