DEER AND TURKEYS

It's that time of year again when the turkeys come out of hiding and mingle with other wildlife in the garden. This was the tail end of a group of about 20 seen on the septic field on Friday.
It won't be long before I hear the guns pop popping. Every year in November I have heard the sound and I know it is someone hunting close by.

This garden spider, living in one corner of the house has made its first egg sack. It is attached to the wall by strong silk ties. The sac contains thousands of tiny spiders. I never know what happens to them because I only ever see one or two adults.

  1. Lots of wildlife in your neighborhood and garden, Jenny. Are you still entertaining the foxes as well?

  2. we had a cool big garden spider one year and very impressive..we took some pictures that turned out very well. One of the goals for my big backyard make over is to make it like a wildlife habitat.. of course, it won't be as 'wild' as yours though I have seen deer in the past behind our city green belt and I did once see a raccoon shimmy round my house when we first moved in a few years ago. The most recent 'wildlife' sighting wasn't a sighting but a 'hearing'.. we heard coyotes howl during the night..they must've been really hungry to have come out this far into town (I live off of William Cannon near Becket so it's not exactly rural)

  3. Wow, I had no idea that turkeys were so big in Texas! I'm envious of all of your wildlife, especially the foxes.
