IT'S TULIP TIME

The species tulips opened this week. This one is Tulipa clusiana 'Lady Jane'

This one is Tulipa clusiana 'Cynthia'

Like all tulips the underside of the petals is more deeply colored. The insides pale.

At the end of the day they close up ready to show their colorful underparts the next morning.

  1. So beautiful. I have tulip foliage but no tulips yet! Perhaps it's too much to hope they'll bloom their first year?

  2. Caroline-Mine bloomed the first year. When the foliage appeared this year I thought there were going to be no blooms, but then I saw the bud in the center. They are growing in very poor soil but still they bloomed. I'm sure yours will bloom also.

  4. Oh gosh, I think I must be doing too much washing. I read that as "colourful underpants"!

  5. Catching up on all your Spring blooms. Very heartening to us where there is still snow on the ground. And loved your volunteer party. We're about to have a warming trend, so maybe we'll be seeing some bulbs peeking up soon as well.

  7. Those are beautiful and unusual. We have trouble with tulips in California because of a lack of winter chill, so it is good to see that there are varieties that work for you in Texas.

  8. Oh, your Lady Jane tulips are gorgeous! I planted a whole bunch back in fall and not a single one came up. I'll have to try again with bulbs from a different source.
