Of course you probably know where he came from but I won't tell. I had to give him several coats of sealant to make him water proof and for now he is above the water line on a temporary stand while I think of a better perch.
The floating rafts made it through the winter and look as good as ever. So much so that with some help from David I made two more this weekend. They will help shade the water surface in the larger stock tank until the water lilies cover the surface.
There is a little less shade here this year due to some trimming back of low branches on the live oak tree. That meant not so many cactus on the steps.
He's a fish out of water but he looks happy enough where he is! I love the look of your garden through the open doorway too.

DeleteBefore seeing the photos I'd have bet you couldn't improve on that stock tank but here we are and there you go. I'd have lost that bet big time. The fish is adorable and looks right at home like he has always been there and was always meant to be there.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure how many striking photos like this it is going to take to get me off my duff and figuring out a stock tank or water feature to put into play around here. Every time I promise myself "soon!"....
A friend submerged two champagne bottles (wine bottles weren't heavy enough) in her tank placed far enough apart so the necks (which -just- stuck above the surface) served as props for a little ceramic bridge. She was concerned it would not be a stable platform but so far it seems to be holding. The bottles "disappeared" under the water so it looks like the bridge is floating. (I wish I had a photo to share but you get the general idea... )
That sounds like a wonderful idea for my little fishy. I don't really like seeing the bricks and tiles under the water. A piece of limestone would be a better choice but can't get round to that chore. I have an old galvanized tub which is serving as a temporary home for some water iris. It may just become permanent!
