IT'S A MISTY MORNING IN BARTON CREEK

And my garden is just loving it.
Lapping up all that moisture in the air.

In preparation for another November 80 degree day.

But change is on the way later this week.

  2. Lovely....

Are the 'cages' over your veggies to deter the squash vine borers? I've about given up on squash because of them.

Hope we get the promised rain this week.

  3. Tina- Thank you. It is looking pretty good right now thanks to that big rain followed by the gorgeous un fll like weather.
Linda- That was the original intent but also other flying bugs that destroy the plants. I think it was really successful in the spring. I did plant some that were not under cover and was very diligent about picking off the eggs. I had my best year ever. At this time of year the squash vine borers are not around and the plants have been very healthy. I think this great fall has helped their success.

  4. The fog this morning was lovely and I was too busy to capture the moment so I'm thankful that you did. Your gardens are just gorgeous!

Btw, what is the purple flowering, tall plant to the left in the last picture? Violet of some type? It's a beauty.

  5. Whimsical gardener- It didn't last for long did it-but there is hope for later this week. My garden is so dry. The flower in the last photo is indeed a violet- Philippine violet. It dies back in a cold winter and I wasn't sure it would recover from last winter's cold temperatures. It did and is one of my favorite plants.

  6. I like the stepping stones you put between your veggie beds as well as the flowers along the edges of the wood. We too have wooden raised veggie beds and you've inspired me to look into doing something similar. Thanks!

  7. Thanks Abbey. David made all the stones. It was hard to find good sized ones 10 years ago but today there is more selection.

  8. Was fortunate enough to spend some time yesterday at BSN and found the Philippine Violet in a 4" container! Can it take some partial shade or does it need a lot of sun? It is glorious!

  9. Mine is in full sun when the sun gets round to the spot where I have it planted, which is around lunch time in the summer. I have had it for 3 years. I was amazed that it came back after the terrible winter and it did die back to the ground and below. It blooms right now having beautiful green leaves all summer. No known pests or diseases- so far. Good luck.
