First there is me. Even with the 3" of rain we had a little over a week ago my garden is still dry, dry dry. So I am very happy with a couple of showers and a foggy morning.
Look who else likes this day. Yesterday they were just buds, today two iris blooms opened. The first one was a passalong from the garden of Lucinda Hutson. Thanks, Lucinda. We have really enjoyed your iris.
I hope the rain doesn't spoil the blooms, particularly on this one because it made its first bloom while we were away in January and was dead by the time we came home. This is the second year it has bloomed prematurely and I missed the bloom. It seems it is not a big bloomer and only produces a few blooms each year.
No complaints about the rain around here either.
ReplyDeleteThose iris are lovely, it's such a great plant this time of year. Mine haven't even budded yet, they need a bit more sun.
Can you believe that I haven't grown iris since my first garden in 1971. Then Lucinda gave me some and now they are never leaving.
DeleteRain is very welcome. Things really dried out, after that last rain we had. Maybe it's the warm temps.
ReplyDeleteI planted an iris last year...it doesn't seem to have any blooms coming. Very disappointing. Maybe I need to move it somewhere else.
Iris do seem to like a sunny spot. If they were small they may need another year in the ground before they bloom.
DeleteThe drizzle is nice--not complaining one bit! That top iris looks like one I have as well, although I don't know its name--it's a pass-a-long. Do you know the name? None of my irises are blooming yet. I'm looking forward to that.
ReplyDeleteSorry, Tina, I don't have the name. I must ask Lucinda if she knows.
DeleteIt has been nice here as well....a little on the dry side as well. But spring has certainly started early this year! No freezes! Cross your fingers:)
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I like ti when spring begins so early. We have had freezes but nothing that killed big time. Keeping my fingers crossed for all of us.
DeleteIt does seem a bit early for iris blooms. Those are very pretty. My white ones (commonly called cemetery iris) are putting on a few buds. The rest will wait till April I think. But I did see my neighbor's white iris blooming in January, so who knows?!
ReplyDeleteSomeone gave me a clump of the white ones. I remember now she called them cemetery iris. I notice they also have buds.
DeleteThese Iris are beautiful and the photos are refreshing!
ReplyDeleteHere, we are waiting for the rain.
I have a variety like the second picture, I can't wait to see them in bloom!
I do hope you get some. I remember a few years ago Spain was in a terrible drought and they were shipping drinking water into Barcelona. Do you have a name fro your iris. I'm afraid I am remiss in remembering names so don't know what mine is called.
DeleteSo glad you're getting some much-needed rain...and the Iris look appreciative, for certain! I've also had a few Iris in the past that seemed to crumple like crepe paper at the lightest rain...I'd always cross my fingers that we'd get a few dry days while it bloomed!
ReplyDeleteI see more buds on the way so hopefully we can enjoy a good iris season.
DeleteWasn't this morning great? it felt like we were by the sea; misty, fresh and breezy. Not something we get much of in Texas!
ReplyDeleteWishing you more steady rain! Those iris are lovely!
ReplyDeleteJenny, Iris is one of my beloved flowers. I can't believe they are beginning their bloom season so early in your yard. No buds on mine yet, but I'm hopeful it will be a good year. I have over 10 varieties, and it will be fun to see what blooms this year. Last fall I bought a "mystery grab bag" at Natural Gardener of Iris bulbs. They were all heirloom premium bulbs, but they had lost track of what colors they were, so they were selling them cheaply. I planted all of them and it will be fun to see what they are when they bloom.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the drizzly weather we had here too, and I know my garden enjoyed it. Your irises are lovely.
