I'm always on the lookout for something I can repurpose and use in the garden. This old metal lampshade, for instance. I happened to be driving by a garage sale at the end of the morning and this item was free. It is an old lampshade with a broken interior support. Perfect to turn upside down and turn into a planter. I filled it with a loose gravel, pumice, fibre, granite mix and a few cactus pads that had been kicking around in 4" pots. Et voilà.

I filled it with a loose gravel, pumice, fibre, granite mix and a few cactus pads that had been kicking around in 4" pots. Et voilà.

Wondering, what did you do to the bottom to prvent all the gravel from pouring out? This is an intersting idea and I see all kinds of shades and stuff at goodwill and salvation army.

ReplyDeleteCynthia- Don't know how permanent it will be but I lined the whole thing with window screen and then cut out the bottom of a meat tray, punched holes, and placed it on the bottom. So far it is holding.
