BARGAINS!

Our two wheelbarrows have seen a lot of service. Their trays have worn so thin that they are full of holes. When I saw someone was selling one at a garage sale I was determined to be over there at 8am. And I was.

The wheelbarrow turned out to be a disappointment because it was a small one. However  it works for me as I can't haul the weight of material I once could. But I really got excited when I saw the rain barrel. It was pretty grubby but the price was right.

This gardener can never have enough clay pots and saucers.

Total cost for all items $10. Now that's what I call a bargain.

The barrel comes with a screened cover although the overflow pipe and hose are missing.

We will have to do a little work on the rainbarrel. I'm not very happy with the size of the drain hole and will need to make it larger to install a proper tap.

I also rescued this little potted succulent. I had a feeling that no one would buy it so I took it home. I need to repot it in one of the clay pots!
The plant has now been identified as Rhipsalis grandiflora, thanks to Gwennie and Gwennies garden.

  1. nice finds!! I'm dying to get out and do some yard sale trolling. The weather has been crummy and well, I've never been really good at getting my act together to scout sales ahead of time... But the dream lives on!

    1. I usually head out when my H is away. There is a great website for every town in the US which shows where the garage sales are. I usually just venture to the ones close to my neighborhood.

  2. You got some nice bargains. I wouldn't mind a smaller wheelbarrow for manuevering around the garden. And yep, I can't haul those big loads anymore.....

  5. Wow, what a good deal! Extra terracotta pots are always welcome. Just yesterday I was out practicing zone denial. Those zone 9 and 10 plants I bought will need to go in pots.

    1. That's what I will be doing today; using some of those pots as hot caps for my squash and bringing things inside again! I have never planted so early before.

  6. You got a good deal. I hope you share if you figure out how to repair the rain barrel. I have two like that and the barbed fitting that broke off of yours is about to split and break off of one of mine.

    1. I have watched several videos on utube and it seems to be fairly straightforward. I also downloaded the booklet that came with these rain barrels so I knew what might be missing.

  7. You're still ahead of me in the wheelbarrow dept. I had to graduate to one of those 3-wheeled deeper ones that takes less strength to keep upright. I found one at a sale for $5. Not as drop dead as your prices, however. You always find the best bargains! Wonder what that succulent is? I like it. It would look good in a head pot - like dredlocks with one's finger stuck in the light socket.

    1. You are a bargain hunter also. I have never tried the 3 wheeler. We do have one of those bicycle tire type which is easy to push but cumbersome and only for outside the garden work. Gwennie identified the succulent which I have updated. Repotting on the bill today.

  8. You always find such great garden bargains! I rarely see gardening items when I drive by neighborhood garage sales, but maybe I need to actually stop to find them.

  9. That rain barrel is quite a find along with rest of your haul quite nice for $10. We have a neighborhood-wide garage sale weekend coming up, it's so much fun and convenient going from house to house all at once. Love the new succulent too.

  10. You do find great bargains. I really need to check out some yard sales.

That rain barrel is like ours. So, I know what a great deal you got on it. Even if you have to do some repair.

I can't handle a wheel barrow. I need carts these days.

And, the haul you made just on saucers, was worth the money.
